| Correlation between gender-related differences of inflammatory biomarkers and in-hospital mortality among patients with acute Stanford type A aortic dissection |

Abstract Objective To investigate gender-related differences of inflammatory biomarkers among patients with acute Stanford type A aortic dissection, and to explore their correlation with in-hospital mortality. Methods A total of 463 patients with acute Stanford type A aortic dissection from January 2015 to December 2017 were enrolled. The age, past history, white blood cell count, neutrophil ratio, C-reactive protein, treatment and in-hospital survival rate were compared between male and female. Results There were more male acute Stanford type A aortic dissection patients than female patients (3.63∶1) among the 463 patients. The mean age-of-onset of female patients was significantly older than that of male patients. Female patients had a higher rate of coronary heart disease than male patients, and a lower rate of cigarettes smoking. Binary logistic regression analyses showed that independent risk factors for in-hospital mortality in male patients with acute Stanford type A aortic dissection included CRP (OR=0.429, P=0.01), surgical treatment (OR=0.108, P＜0.001). Female who died during hospitalization were older than those who survived (P＜0.05). Inflammatory markers were not independently related to female in-hospital mortality. Conclusion Male patients with acute Stanford type A aortic dissection are more common and younger than female patients. CRP and surgical treatment are protective factors for male patients with acute Stanford type A aortic dissection.
