Abstract Cardiac arrest (CA) is one of the most deadly public health problem in the world. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is the only effective way to rescue cardiac arrest patients, and chest compression is the key to the success of CPR. This paper reviews the history, mechanism, situations, latest requirements and development and prospect of chest compression, etc. in order to provide a developing view of chest compression, and further improve survival of the cardiac arrest patient.
