Abstract Sepsis is the leading cause of death in critically ill patients, but the pathogenesis is not yet clear. Inflammatory reaction, immune cell apoptosis and oxidative stress play an important role in the development of sepsis. Thioredoxin-1 (Trx-1) is an important oxidative stress regulating protein, which has a variety of biological activities. Current studies have found that Trx-1 can play a protective role in sepsis. Trx-1 can reduce inflammatory response, decrease cell apoptosis, reduce oxidative stress, and improve bacterial clearance in sepsis. This article reviews the research progress of the mechanism of Trx-1 in sepsis.
