Abstract Sepsis is a life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection, which is the result of pathological infection and physiological changes. It has the characteristics of high incidence, high mortality, and high hospitalization cost, it is the leading cause of death in critically ill patients, and has become an important public health problem in the 21st century. Its pathological mechanism is complex and has not yet been fully elucidated, the latest guideline still recommend bundles therapy. Recent studies have shown that high doses of vitamin C could reduce the mortality of sepsis, bring a glimmer of hope for its treatment. The purpose of the review is to describe the beneficial effects and possible mechanisms of vitamin C on sepsis in order to help the treatment and research of sepsis.
