Abstract Objective To explore early fibronectin(Fn) on predicting the prognosis in patients with severe pneumonia. Methods A retrospective observation study was conducted. Eighty-six patients of severe pneumonia admitted to emergency intensive care unit and intensive care units during January 2013 to January 2017 were enrolled. The data of serum Fn level, SOFA and CPIS scores were compared between survival and non-survival groups. The time of using vasoactive agents, mechanical ventilation, mortality rates and SOFA, CPIS scores were observed between Fn≤200 mg/L and Fn>200 mg/L groups. The correlation was analyzed between Fn level and SOFA and CPIS scores. Results The serum Fn level, SOFA and CPIS scores had obvious changes between survival and non-survival groups (P<0.01, P<0.05). Compared with Fn>200 mg/L groups, the time of using vasoactive agents, mechanical ventilation, mortality rates and SOFA, CPIS scores were significantly increased in Fn≤200 mg/L groups (P<0.05). The serum Fn level was significantly correlated with SOFA and CPIS scores. Conclusion Early monitoring of Fn is important for assessing the severity and prognosis and is helpful for evaluation of therapeutic effect on severe pneumonia.
