Abstract Nuclear incidents have threatened the world for decades, so that there is an urgent need to develop the safe and effective radiation countermeasures for acute radiation syndrome (ARS). Although a series of researches had been developed, few radiation countermeasures have been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is a complicated progress for treating radiation injuries which includes the hematopoietic, gastrointestinal and cerebrovascular therapies. Despite no way to identify all agents in this review, we emphasize some advanced development of existing radiation measures.
