Abstract Objective To assess the impact of CERTAIN electronic checklist during the morning rounds on mechanical ventilation duration and ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in the intensive care unit (ICU). Methods 173 patients admitted to ICU from January 2016 to December 2016, undergoing invasive mechanical ventilation were divided into routine rounds group(n=86) and electronic checklist rounds group(n=87) according to the morning round mode. The clinical data of two groups were analyzed, included the sedation time, mechanical ventilation duration, the incidence of VAP and the length of stay in ICU between the two groups were statistically analyzed. Results The electronic checklist rounds group compared with routine rounds group in the sedation time[(6.32±4.27)d vs. (4.52±3.65)d), the mechanical ventilation duration [(7.79±5.16)d vs. (6.34±4.24)d) and the length of stay in ICU [(13.65±7.24)d vs. (10.47±6.47)d]were significantly increased (P<0.05),and the incidence rate of VAP was significantly higher (10.3% vs. 22.1%, P<0.05). However, there was no significant difference in 28day mortality (P>0.05). Conclusion Electronic checklist in ward rounds can shorten the time of sedation and mechanical ventilation duration, reduce the incidence of VAP in patients with mechanical ventilation.
