Interhospital transportation of critically respiratory failure patients on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation |

Abstract Objective To summarize experience of interhospital transportation of critically respiratory failure patients on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in order to improve the treatment rate of ECMO. Methods To summarize the mode, process, complications and management experience of interhospital transportation of 19 patients with respiratory failure on V-V ECMO from Jan 2013 to Oct 2018. Results Nineteen patients were transported safely, including 1 case with hypoxemia during transportation. After admission, 8 cases were treated successfully, 9 cases had irreversible multiple organ failure and died, and 1 case had uncontrollable retroperitoneal hemorrhage and died, and 1 case died due to circulatory failure. The survival rate was 8/19. Conclusion Reasonable staffing, adequate preparation of materials, appropriate arrangement of vehicle space and close cooperation are the keys to transport safely and stably and improve the treatment rate of ECMO.
