Abstract Objective To investigate the early changes of arterial blood gas index and to provide the treatment method during the early stages of firearms-frozen and frozen-firearms compound injury. Methods Thirty Japanese white rabbits were randomly divided into five groups: A firearms- frozen group, B freeze-firearms group, C firearms group, D frostbite group, E control group. The potential of hydrogen (pH), partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2), partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2), actual bicarbonate (AB), standard bicarbonate (SB), oxyhemoglobin saturation (SaO2), base excess (BE) and oxygenation index (PaO2/FiO2) of rabbits were measured after building the model (75±5) min. Results There was a significant difference in A, B, C group when compared with E group in the arterial blood gas index
(P<0.05), and no significant difference in D group compared with E group (P>0.05), and no significant difference among A, B, C, D group (P>0.05). A significant difference was shown in the acid-base balance disorders in A group when compared with B, D group (P<0.05). Moreover, the A group is mainly performance for metabolic acidosis with respiratory alkalosis. Compared with D group, the acid-base balance disorders in B, C group had no significant difference (P>0.05). Conclusion The firearms- frozen/frozen-firearms compound injury’s arterial blood gas index has more serious disorder. Furthermore, the main performance of the acid-base balance disorder type is metabolic acidosis merger respiratory alkalosis. Early treatment strategy according to the characteristic of arterial blood gas index changes will help to improve the successful rate of clinical treatment.
