Abstract Sepsis is a common disease of ICU. Its mortality is high and its incidence is increasing year by year. During sepsis, apoptosis of lymphoid organs and some parenchymal tissues leads to immunosuppression and organ dysfunction, and apoptosis is usually accomplished through the caspase family. Caspase family members are numerous and participate in many cell events, such as apoptosis, inflammation, burnout, etc. On the contrary, caspase inhibitors and caspase deficiency can significantly improve the survival rate of sepsis model and overall disease outcomes. Thus, caspase plays an important role in the occurrence and development of sepsis.
