Abstract Objective To summarize and analyze the causes and treatment of ventricular electri⁃ cal stormafter cardiac surgery. Methods A total of 24 patients with post-operative ventricular electrical storm in our hospital from January, 2007 to January, 2016 were retrospectively analyzed. The basic clinical information, surgical approach, in-operative condition and postoperative treatment were summarized in all patients. There were 2 patients after coronary artery bypass grafting, 20 after valvular displacement, 2 after the Bentall and Sun's procedure. The causes of ventricular storm were found in all 24 patients. Different patients were specifically treated for different causes by electrical cardio- version with ECG monitoring, internal or external chest compression, electric defibrillation, and antiarrhythmic treatment with amiodarone, β-blockers, magnesium sulfate. Results There were 20 patients cured and 4 died. Conclusion The ventricular electrical storm can be induced by a variety of reasons during perioperative cardiac surgery. The incentives should be avoided during perioperative cardiac surgery. The patients with post- operative ventricular electrical storm should be treated immediately for different causes by internal or external chest compression, electric defibrillation, and antiarrhythmic treatment with amiodarone, β-blockers, magnesium sulfate, maintenance electrolyte homeostasis to improve the success rate of rescue.
