Abstract Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of high-dose ambroxol on pulmonary contusion caused by chest trauma. Methods From August 2013 to July 2015, 106 cases of pulmonary contusion caused by chest trauma were randomly divided into two groups. The study group(53 patients)received hide- dose ambroxol, while the control group received normal dose ambroxol. The arterial blood gas analysis, duration of ICU stay, mechanical ventilation time, antibiotic use time and pulmonary complication were compared between the two groups. Results The arterial blood gas analysis was both improved in two groups with a significant difference(P<0.05), and the study group was superior to the control group with a significant difference(P<0.05). The duration of ICU stay, mechanical ventilation time and antibiotic use time were less in study group than those in the control group with a significant difference(P<0.05). The total pulmonary complication of the study group was 20.8%, which was less than the control group(35.8%)with no significant difference(P>0.05). Conclusion High-dose ambroxol on pulmonary contusion caused by chest trauma can improve lung function, reduce the incidence of pulmonary complication, shorten the length of hospital stay, and lower the total cost of hospitalization, so it is worth clinical promotion.
