The effect of intermedin on the development and survival status of patients with sepsis |

Abstract Objective To investigate the effect of intermedin on the development and survival of sepsis patients. Methods The clinical data of 105 patients with sepsis treated in our hospital from January 2016 to December 2017 were retrospectively analyzed as observation group and 105 healthy persons matched for the same period as control group. Patients with sepsis were divided into survival group and death group according to their living condition during hospitalization, and according to APACHE Ⅱ scores the sepsis patients were divided into ≤ 20 scores group, 21~30 scores group, and > 30 scores groups. The difference of intermedin, procalcitonin and C-reactive protein among groups were compared, and the correlation between intermedin and APACHE Ⅱ score of septic patients were analyzed by Spearman correlation analysis. The effect of intermedin on the survival status of sepsis patients was analyzed by using the operating curve of subjects. Results The levels of intermedin and procalcitonin C-reactive protein in sepsis patients in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.01), and the level of intermedin in the patients with sepsis in the survival group was significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.01). The level of procalcitonin was significantly lower than that in the death group (P<0.05), there was no significant difference in C-reactive protein between the survival group and the dead group (P>0.05). The difference of procalcitonin level was statistically significant (P<0.01), there was no significant difference in C-reactive protein between septic patients with different APACHE Ⅱ scores (P>0.05), and there was a significant positive correlation between procalcitonin and procalcitonin C-reactive protein levels in sepsis patients with different APACHE Ⅱ scores (P>0.05). The sensitivity of procalcitonin and C-reactive protein in predicting the survival status of sepsis patients was 90.3% and 80.6%, respectively, and the sensitivity of intermedin in predicting the survival status of sepsis patients was 77.4%. There were no significant differences among the three groups (P>0.05). The specificity of procalcitonin and C-reactive protein in predicting the survival status of sepsis patients was 81.0%, and the specificity of procalcitonin and C-reactive protein was 47.6% and 38.1% respectively. The specificity of intermedin level was significantly higher than that of procalcitonin and C-reactive protein (P<0.05). Conclusion Intermedin is of high predictive value in the progression and survival of sepsis patients.
